UNION GOVERNMENT UNION EXECUTIVE THE PRESIDENT • • Article 52: There shall be a President of India. He shall be the head of the state. • • Article 53: Executive powers of the Union shall be vested in the President (and shall be) exercised by him either directly or through the officers subordinate to him in accordance with the constitution. Election of the President (Articles 54 & 55) • • Article 54 provides that President shall be elected by the members of an electoral college consisting of:- (a) Elected members of both houses of parliament; and (b) Elected members of the legislative assemblies of the states. • • In Art-54 & Art - 55 the word “State” includes “National Capital Territory of Delhi” and UT of Pondicherry (Puducherry).
